As part of a project to establish a geopark in the town of Idrija, representatives from Magma Geopark and local authorities in southwestern Norway came to Slovenia August 27th to share their know-how and experience in creating such a park.

New agreement on EEA financial mechanisms

Norway and the EU have reached agreement on a financial contribution of 1788,5 million euro for the period 2009–2014. “We are pleased that the new agreement on EEA financial mechanisms can finally be signed. This is a substantial contribution to reducing social and economic disparities in Europe,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Museum of Slovene film actors in Divica

Škratelj´s homestead was at the beginning of the 20th century the biggest and most important homestead in Divača (South-Western part of Slovenia). Through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism financial support has been granted to renovate renovate the buildings of Škratelj’s homestead and establish a film actors’ museum.

Opening of the Interdisciplinary Didactical Centre for Environmental Education

Ambassador Guro H.K. Vikør attended the opening of the Interdisciplinary Didactical Centre for Environmental Education at the University of Maribor on the 7th of July. The ambassador has visited Maribor University several times in connection with the Science Educational Centre for Sustainable Development project, which also this centre is a part of. The first time was in February 2009 in order to sign the documents for the project, which is worth almost 1,1 million euro and with 85% of the funding donated by Norway.

Centre for Helping the Blind and Visually Impaired

The Centre for Helping the Blind and Visually Impaired located in Ljubljana was officially opened on Wednesday the 23rd of June. The Centre, which is co-financed by the Norway Grants, is the the first of its kind in Slovenia.

Lipizzaner Museum on its way

The EEA financial mechanism is partly financing the establishment of the Lipizzaner Museum which is planned to open in April, 2011. The location of the museum will be at the famous Lipica Stud Farm in Slovenia. On Wednesday June 2nd, a press conference on the development of the museum was held, and Norwegian ambassador Guro H. K. Vikør participated.

Intergenerational knowledge in Zalec

Fund for scholarships and exchange of experts

The EEA and Norway Grants fund for scholarships and exchange of experts was launched on the 19th of June 2009. It amounts to € 1.4 and is co-financed with 10% by the Slovenian Government Office for Development and European Affairs (GODEA). The fund intermediary, Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Mobility and European Educational and Training Programmes, CMEPIUS, launched two open calls during the fall 2009 to distribute the money.

New EEA Financial Mechanism negotiated – Historic cooperation between Norway and the new EU member states

The EEA/EFTA countries have signed an agreement with the EU on new financial contributions for 2009-2014. Norway will provide around NOK 3 billion (EUR 347 million) per year to reduce social and economic disparities and promote cooperation in Europe in the period 2009–2014. Norway’s contribution for the period 2009–2014 is a 22% increase compared with its contribution for the previous period (2004–2009). The scope of the mechanism is now closer to Norway’s priorities, with focus on the environment, climate change, renewable energy and tripartite cooperation

Norway Grants: Excursion to Radovljica

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ljubjana invited all EU-27 ambassadors and ambassadors from the western- Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) to an excursion to the town of Radovljica on the 21st of October. The intention was to show the ambassadors the renovation project that had been carried out in the city with the Norway Grants and inform them about this financial mechanism and the EEA- Grants as well.

Gorenjska and Hedmark Regions cooperate on Regional Development and Cultural Heritage Preservation Project

A Slovenian delegation of 33 public and NGO officals from five municpalities in the Gorenjska region met with Norwegian officials in Hedmark, Norway, this January. The delegation’s visit marked the initiation of Lively Old Town; an urban revitalization and regional development project financed through the EEA Grants.

Norway and Slovenia signed €18 mil. agreement

On 20 April 2005 Norway and Slovenia signed a memorandum of understanding which enables Slovenia to receive 18 million Euro through the EEA Financial Mechanisms. The signing took place in the Governmental Palace in Ljubljana at 13.30h. In the afternoon, a Norwegian-Slovenian roundtable on energy was arranged in Brdo pri Kranju, attracting some 40 participants from the public and the private energy sector in Norway and Slovenia.

Cultural heritage - Finding partners in Norway

In the period up to 2009, Norway will contribute EUR 1.134 billion to the EEA grants for 13 countries. Protection of the European Cultural Heritage is given high priority, and is specified as a focus area in most of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the EFTA states/Norway and the 13 countries. Projects in this focus area are eligible for support through the EEA grants.
