Larvik HK visits Ljubljana

22/02/2010 // Larvik HK made a short visit to Ljubljana in connection with their match on Friday 19th of February against Krim Mercator in the handball Champions League. The Norwegian ambassador, Guro Katharina H. Vikør, invited the team to lunch the day before their important match. Larvik HK had never won against Krim Mercator in Ljubljana, and was therefore determined on victory this time.

Almost straight from the airport, Larvik HK arrived to the ambassador’s residence to have lunch on Thursday. The menu for consisted of different pasta dishes with salads and bread . The players ate with good appetite and, and the cakes served for dessert were particulary appreciated. Larvik HK was very pleased to be invited for lunch and presented the ambassador with the team’s t-shirt signed by all the players.

 They told that they always had a good time when visiting Ljubljana, as the city was very enjoyable. Although Larvik HK had won against Krim Mercator several times elsewhere, they had never beaten the team on their home court before. Therefore they were determined to change this record. The ambassador wished Larvik HK the best of luck before the match the next day.  

 

During Friday afternoon Hala Tivoli got filled up with an eager audience. The first minutes of the game turned out to be quite even. Krim Mercator came in the lead with 4-3, but that was the closest they ever got to win. From then on Larvik HK took control and managed to win the match by 4 goals, 30-34. On the fifth try, Larvik HK finally succeeded in beating Krim Mercator in Ljubljana. It seems the carbohydrates provided during the lunch had a good effect on Larvik HK, and the ambassador is now open for making this a tradition.

It was important for Larvik HK to win this match in order to increase their chances to reach the semifinal. Larvik HK is unbeaten halfway in the main round, but still has three matches to go.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ljubljana whises Larvik HK the best of luck with its remaining games in Champions League.
