Norway and Slovenia

From the 1st of July 2009 the prices on vignettes changed. Everyone who drives on Slovenian high ways must have a vignette. Those can be bought at the border station or gas stations before the border of Slovenia. A confirmation of paid vignette must be put on the car before you enter the border or else you have to pay a fine from 300 till 800 Euro.

Yearly there are some few Norwegian students who have found their way to Slovenia and some Slovenian students who have come all the way to Norway to study abroad. Often they attend the exchange programs through Erasmus. Through the European Volunteer Service (EVS) the Norwegian ladies Mari Sunde Nordby and Tone Fauske are working as volunteers in Slovenia. They have been in Ljubljana for some months now and both are looking forward to spend more time in Slovenia.

Radio Aktual in Ljubljana has had a competition named Goldfish, where the winner would be rewarded with a trip to Norway for two people. Ivo Gantar from Žirov became the lucky winner.

The Waldorf  Schools in Slovenia and the Rudolf  Steiner University College in Oslo started their cooperation eight years ago, when the first Internationl Waldorf Summer Seminar was held in Norway. Godi Keller and David L. Brierley from the Rudolf Steiner College in Oslo are often at the Waldorf School in Ljubljana sharing their experiences with the teachers and parents related to the Waldorf Schools.

On May 13, business opportunities in the Nordic countries were presented to more than 30 representatives of Slovene companies. The director of the Chamber of Commerce hopes this will contribute in making Slovene companies more ambitious.

For the first time there is a Norwegian language course in Slovenia. The students are learning Norwegian as part of their contract with Norwegian pharmacies. Soon they are moving to Norway.

Upon invitation by the Slovenian Parliament Speaker Dr France Cukjati, President of the Norwegian Parliament Thorbjørn Jagland paid an official visit to Slovenia 13-16 March. Jagland also met President Danilo Türk, deputy group leaders in the Parliament and State Secretary Andrej Ster in the Foreign Ministry.

Slovenia and Norway signed on Monday a new agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, which upgrades the 1983 accord and is expected to facilitate economic cooperation.

On September 17-18 the Norwegian Education and Research Minister Djupedal visited his Slovenian counterpart Minister Zver. They announced that they would organise a joint conference on multilingualism in Oslo next year.
